Computer problems with my wife's computer

A few things that you can do...

Remove any printers that are not used. Windows is constantly trying to contact those printers.

make sure there are not many shortcuts and files on the desktop.
Windows performs a lot better when your desktop is clean. Especially if your have a lot of shortcuts. They are worse than actual files, but try to limit the files too. Just put them in My documents or something.

Good checks you can do:

From a command prompt type sfc /scannow and hit enter and see if windows is having any issues. If there are any issues windows will fix them.

From a command prompt type chkdsk /f and hit enter and see if the hard drive has any errors. The /f trigger tells check disk to fix the errors.

Also run a disc defrag and straighten out the files and free space.

All are easy things to do that will help your computer run a lot better.

You can also limit the programs that run at start up. The less she has running the better the machine will perform.

Sorry for not updating this thread. Her computer is going to have to go to the repair shop. Shortly after my last post, she started having hardware problems also. The fan went out and then she got a warning that her battery was not holding a charge.
