Can any one help to ID this please, found about 8 inches down in an old mid 1800's park in New Zealand, made from thin brass.

Identification of Item

Hi

Nice find. What you have here is an Other Ranks 1844 Pattern Shako Plate for the 65th Regiment of Foot.

This example is from a battalion or centre company, the grenadier and light companies (flank companies) having a smaller regimental number surmounted by a flaming grenade or strung bugle respectively.

These were reserved for dress occasions, the soft forage cap being worn in the field. But it is still nice to see a complete example.

If you are ever looking to sell this, I would be interested, as I have a small collection of 65th Regiment items.
