Curb strip find. Anybody recognize this button?
Any info will be appreciated. Age? Units?

We will need the exact wording on the backmark to get a good date. I can't quite read the entire backmark so please interpret it for us. That button was used prewar to modern times. Some were pre-1850 to 1941. (See page 102, item 112 of Albert's button book).

It says J. B. GAURT & SON NEW YORK.

There’s more around the shankbut I can’t make it out
 
"J. R. Gaunt & Son, London & NYC. Founded c.1725 as Edward Thurkle. From 1900-05 J. R. Gaunt & Son Ltd was at 5 Denmark St. Soho; 1906-18 at 53 Conduit St., Bond St.; 1919-24 at 60 Conduit & 1925-27 at 2 New Burlington Pl & continues. For the sake of filling in the missing words, this Marine Corp button has the same backmark
