This morning a friend and I went detecting at Carlsbad State beach. After about 3 hours of melted aluminum and rusted iron, I moved up close to the cliff. I noticed a big streak of exposed clay right at the base of the cliff. Knowing my Nokta would probably false if I ran over it in DI3, I switched to pin pointing mode and listened for any variations. Within seconds I heard a slight variation in the signal over the top of the clay. Dug down 1 inch and out pops a large round. "HEART STARTS RACING, PLEASE DON'T BE ANOTHER WASHER!!" I turn it on its side and see the ribbing. I couldn't believe it, I turn it over and see a perched eagle. After a quick rubbing, 1924 Peace Dollar.

I can only imagine someone decided to come down the side of that cliff a long time ago. Must have slipped out and been sitting there all these years.
