First visit to a sports complex I did not know existed even though it's not far at all from where I grew up. Put the 5x8 on the ATP and immediately started getting signals. Dug pennies all the way to the playground. Lots of trash with the occasional coin that surprisingly were mostly nickels, which I rarely find while pull tabs generally occupy the holes. And a couple of 5 year olds kept wanting to jump on my back while I was kneeling.
Gave it a quick once over and had other tasks to complete so knocked the kids off my back and started back towards my truck. Marked areas to return to when I got a very high signal. I realized I was standing over concrete and gravel and decided it must be hot rocks but, I knelt down anyway.
I quickly realized there was no way I was getting through to whatever was below. I started to get to my feet when I glanced down and about 7-8" away was a ring! I swooped on it, cleaned it off and examined it. Looked like a nice silver band but I've been fooled many times with junkers. Couldn't believe my first silver ring (found my first silver coin 3 weeks ago, after all this time) would be found ON TOP OF THE GROUND. Even more mysterious is that it was obvious this ring has some age and since it was crusty it HAD been in the ground
Anyway headed to my mothers house to clean out the garage but went inside first to clean my find. Washed it off and since my mom had made jewelry she had a massive lighted magnifying glass so I looked for a mark. There it was. .925. It's a nice ring but as the first, that makes it even better.
Now I need some gold....
