So, it's not exactly the most beautiful thing to look at, but it works.

Getting stuff into the island is usually pretty expensive unless you have somebody willing to bring something in a suitcase (shh don't tell!) so I decided to do my own little scoop.

Made from 7" pvc pipe (so it's quite wide) which I got for free, borrowed drill bits to make 10mm and 12.7mm holes randomly placed.. $1 handle and couple screws, and a regular $10 kitchen sieve glued into the end.

Our sand here is very very fine so the sieve works great. Originally I had just the 10mm holes but today I increased many of them to 12.7mm and added more, including some on the sides and top just to make it a lot lighter.

Used it last week (before these updates) and it's so much faster than my shovel technique..

I'm going out tomorrow morning with the new improvements.

Wish me luck !!!!

Very nice!
I made a similar one when I started, but I put a "plug" on the back end and drilled it to accept two u-bolts for the wooden handle:yes:

Well, here's the loot. Nothing good! About $12 in local currency, and way too many nails that shouldnt be on a popular beach.
