When we retire we want to go south for winter and north for summer and be at home for spring and fall working part time. Where would you guys like to go for winter and summer hunting?

Anyone retired wish you were still working? Sounds like a lot of people are bored and just sit around watching tv, eating and sleeping.

Just wonder what some of you guys think. Thanks, Gramps
 
Howdy Gramps...for winter detecting, I think the surf at Miami Beach would be nice..I'm retired and love it..don't know how I managed to get everything done back when I had a full time job in the way...HH Roadrunner_426
 
Have to agree with Roadrunner.....I retired a year ago in June and don't know how I had time to work before!
Main thing is to have some outside interest/hobby. Too many folks just sit back and do nothing when they retire and unfortunately.....don't last too long, mentally or physically. MD'ing is a great hobby to get you outdoors, get some exercise and have fun too!! Your plan for the seasons sounds great too, when my better half decides to retire I think that's what we will be doing. Our Pennsylvania winters can be a little long. From what i've seen here, almost anywhere with a beach would be a good place to hunt. Good Luck!!
 
I agree with all. Don't know how I had time to work. Wish I could have retired 10-20 years ago. Has been 4 years and I love it. I stay busy most of the time and love doing much of what I want to do, when I want to do it. Have about mastered the "don't do today what you can put off till tomorrow" thing. Would love to have a camper van and go to the beach more often.

They always ask my daughter at work how I am coping with retirement. Coping, she just laughs. We have a small motor home and escape Illinois for 3 months every winter. That gives me plenty of MDing time. I've been retired since 2001. The only problem I have is finding enough time for my leisure activities. I just wish my wife detected. oh, I forgot we sprnd the winter in Texas. Rob
 
I'll add another positive report - been retired 10 years now - love it. I go out detecting 2-3 times a week, swim 2 times a weeek in an exercise class, volunteer 3 eves a week at the Gospel Rescue Mission. We go anywhere anytime we want to. Going to New Mexico in a few weeks detecting, going to Louisiana in Nov. Work has always been out of the question since we retired.
Keep several interests going and you will be surprised at the lack of time you have .
We dont go with the seasons as we have beautiful weather year round except for the 2-3 months of summer. Steve in so az
 
I think I would like to try detecting out by Steve in Arizona. Always been a western history buff, or any history, and the west is calling.....
 
June- Sept in Alaska, the rest of the year right here in KY,with a trip or two to a beach with shipwrecks/treasure ie Del. Bay, Outer Banks, Costa Rica.....

Thanks for the ideas, glad to hear you are all enjoying retirement! My wife and I like walking, bicycling, metal detecting, church, visiting with other folks, 14 grandchildren some like metal detecting. I think it's going to be great!

The plan is to get a van/motorhome small enough to use to sightsee and not have to pull a small car along.

With Castro seemingly on the way out, Cuba might be a good winter hunting site before long . Leakinbattries
 
Cuba? Probably stay in the 48, although I've read you can live good for 500.00 in some places, not the way for us. :-)
 
I know what you mean...still, I'd like to give those beaches a try..has to a ton of stuff there from the time when it was full of casinos and resorts . Happy hunting to you, LB
 
Hey Bushwacker, Delaware Bay is my playground. The beaches in DE are turning up all kinds of relics here lately. I am waiting for the "visitors" to leave and plan on getting out every chance I get. Make sure you bring bug spray as they are bad this year! The one nice thing about DE is that we have the "resorts" but the rest of the coastline is open sand, no businesses and NO people! HH!
