Default WW2 Dogtag returned to Family

To put a positive spin onto posts about irrate relatives of veterans being less than happy to be reunited with artifacts that belonged to their forebears I'd like to post this short item on what it is like when it does go well, even if there is an unhappy ending...

The story of a WW2 dog tag being returned to his family...
http://www.lerenfort.fsnet.co.uk/page18N.htm

Somehow this story hasn't got the complete happy ending it should have. I wish I knew what had happened to him...

Kind Regards,
Simon.

Wow, very interesting story. I hope it will help someone remember him and solve the mystery!

I wonder what the L happened to him?

The AWOL bit seems out of charector for this guy.
Hate to say it but I suspect foul play.

Hope I'm wrong.

Hi Lerenfort Do you know if his wife went missing the same time as Elmer?

Also it sounds like you made contact with his English Rose?? Is she still
with us?

Where was the tag found? England? Germany? France?

thanks

Hi,

No his Wife was left behind in the States. The English girl he'd met during the war is (as far as I know still alive, I've not written her in a couple of years). The tag was found in England on a site that the 501st Parachute Infantry were camped prior to going overseas.

It is a sad end, as it seems to highlight the fact, that if you want to "disappear" from the face of the earth you can. After so many years he is likely to be either very old, or no longer on this earth.
