how to find out who owns what property

Go visit your local county courthouse and tell them you need contact names/addresses to the properties you are seeking. All records are public property. If at all possible, bring addresses to the properties you are searching for. Just tell them you want permission from landowners for metal detecting on the properties. Good luck!

In my city the county assessor is online. I just put in the address and all the info comes up. Outside my area I have gone to their office and put my finger on the map and they print out the owner and history. Steve in so az

If you see the street address you can always drop a letter as well - or get a girl scout to knock on the door for you.

As Steve says, a lot of county real estate records are online and searchable by name and/or address. Do a google search for whatever your county real estate records. See what comes up.
