I somehow convinced the wife to let me upgrade from my BH Tracker IV to an AT Pro. Braving the ungodly heat and humidity we have going on right now I took it out for a spin in the yard just to mess around and learn the tones etc. I pulled up this button, not sure but according to my 5 mins of research it might be 1700s early 1800s. It seems like brass, the wire eye looks like iron. On the front there is a faint star or sun burst etched on it. I didnt want to rub it too much. Any ideas on age?

Late 1700s Tombac button.

Do a google search for "engraved spun tombac button"

Also, here's a short discussion. Notice the concave back as well as the lathe marks on the back, and the ring shank.

Very nice. Late 1700's or early 1800's based on the way the shank is attached.
