2011 has to be my most memorable year as far as quantity & quality of finds.
breaking last years large copper total of 34 was an accomplishment in itself with 80 3/4's,73 Indian heads & 49 silvers.
Not to mention finding my 3rd 1789 George Washington inaugural button. Another goal was to dig a 1820's NY state militia Excelsior button
these 3 milestones would have satisfied me for the entire year but,it just gets better.
the highlight of 2011 for me has to be a small pocket spill of early colonial americana at a cellar hole site. 2 beautiful 1787 Connecticut coppers coins and the coveted 1793 chain cent with a rare reverse.the word AMERICA abbreviated AMERI.
Metal detecting for me,is the most rewarding hobby one can have.
The companionship & camaraderie of hunting with others who share a passion for history, whether it's showing eachother finds during the hunt, asking opinions on unidentifiable items, comparing signals at a site, cleaning your finds, taking pictures, displaying them and being an active member of internet forums are just a few of the things that I most enjoy about this hobby.
I have been very blessed to have had pretty good success in the 21 years of park & old home detecting & the 4 short years I have been colonial cellar hole hunting. I hope that my finds after I'm gone will be cherished by future generations to come.
In closing I wish everyone much success in detecting.be safe and may GOD bless you all!
Dave

That is a truly remarkable collection of finds, what a year that you had!! best of luck in 2012... WTG and HH!!!

Dave, congrats on such a terrific year!! That is one impressive collection you have found! You are absolutely right about this being the best hobby. There is so much more to this hobby than just what is found in the ground. You said it best. The camaraderie and friendships that are made are what make this the best hobby!! Congrats to you on an awesome 2011 and may 2012 be just as rewarding!!

Dude, what a killer season, you could start a museum with that collection!

thanks Frank! the feeling is mutual my friend! Happy new year to you & your family.looking forward to more hunts in 2012 as well!

Dave, you have had an amazing year. With the 30+ coppers the year before, I didn't see how you could "top" that, but you went well above "topping" that total. You have made some absolutely astounding finds in 2011.

Truthfully, most of the finds you have posted would either be a find of a lifetime or a find of the year for many of us. Congratulations on a great year. You deserve the finds you have as you worked for every one of them.

Doug

Like you said ,future generations will learn about history from items you have recovered. Wonderfully displayed collection

There's really only one word that describes your 2011 metal detecting year.........AWESOME. I wish I had some cellar holes around here to detect because it would be so cool to find those really old coins and old relics. Congrats on a super 2011 and I hope 2012 is just as good if not better for you.

Thanks for the pictures---nice collection! It will be quite a challenge to be able to top that this year. Hope 2012 is just as sucessful if not more for you!

As I'm sitting here looking at these pictures I was actually shaking my head in disbelief!!!! What an absolutely amazing collection you've got there. I am in shock! Great displays, great digs, great work....thank you so much for sharing.....you are quite an inspiration for me to get out there and DIG DIG DIG !!!!!

He is truly blessed with an amazing location. Anyone in CT can find these things...Of course it take some SERIOUS work, research and skill to hunt the places he does. Nice finds HMN. You're a detecting legend. Awesome pics. Can't wait to see what you find in 2012.

hey

Hi Dave,
i live over the boarder of conn. on the NY side. I have been metal detecting for years and look for colonial sites all the time in NY. i seem to only dig trash constantly. I need a breath of fresh air, and a change. Any chance we might go out for the day, maybe i can learn a few tricks. Rob
