Mystery shaft

I found this today at the edge of a cornfield.

It looks like brass and is just over 3 inches long. The ring grooves go all the way around and it has a hole that goes from end to end.

Any ideas?

Actually I feel pretty lucky to have raised 2 sons and have managed to avoid knowing what half this stuff is. I was always snooping around their rooms and checking all the usual hiding places like a nazi brownshirt but the drugs managed to keep their distance. Might have had something to do with the fact that Dad was a drug dog handler.... :lol:

Now one is a paramedic/fireman and the other is a systems engineer for Aerospace. I thank God everyday for my family!
