I live in north Atlanta. Sherman brought his boys down to Atlanta from Chattanooga in 1864. Came down on a route which is now basically I-75 from Chattanooga to Atlanta.

He had a number of pretty intense battles before he crossed the Chattahoochee river for the final bloody campaign for the City of Atlanta.

Along the I-75 route north of Atlanta is country side filled with farmland around the battle sites. How to get permissions from farm land owners?

Just drive up their roads to their house and knock on their doors? Go into the smaller towns and ask around for some potential leads?

I figure to try the later because the locals may know some land owners where civil war relics have already been found.

It seems to me the detectorists in those areas have an advantage of knowing people as opposed to some guy coming from Atlanta.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.
