A big thanks to all of you for your replies! The ring is a very late Victorian piece, assayed in London in 1900 according to the hallmarks...
Like I said, it rang up same as a silver quarter on the ol' Excal Sword, and what a thrilling surprise it was seeing it in the scoop gleaming in the morning sunlight. A detecting trophy...and a perfect pirate's pinkie ring
