Was just too hot today to go metal detecting under the sun. So I went to the woods where there was shade (aka the old town dump) and sat in a nice cool pit (and sweat profusely digging but hey, it was cooler and shady!). Mid century trash makes me happy
Scored six marbles and six milk bottles... well, seven marbles but one was shattered and fell apart when I threw it in the bucket. Three of the milk bottles were ACL half-pints; knowing this dump and how ACL reacts to the air, I knew the printing would be gone soon, but I photographed 'em while they still had their green writing. The other three were embossed: Lockshore Dairy (Kalamazoo), Arctic Dairy (Detroit) and Uni Dairy Pak (Jackson).
A few other odds and ends and the day was a dirty, filthy success. Still checking for ticks..... Oh yeah, forgot to mention, I FINALLY got an unbroken Hi-Klas! I've found so many broken and wiped ones... okay, there's a chip on the bottom but it's a keeper! (I just looked up that little "Sanfords" bottle with the lid still rusted onto it in the photo of the little bottles and it appears to be ink...I haven't decided if I'm gonna acid soak the rust off it or just leave it on...
The Ball Jar reference chart indicates that the one I dug today is 1923-1933. I love them blue canning jars, every one!
Added a photo of a silver quarter I found a couple days ago. Was soooo hot I just felt no motivation so that yard was left for a later time (but I scored the quarter before leaving).
On the same day, I thought I would wander through a corn field and try to find an arrowhead. I didn't, but I found this cool little fossil in the last photos. The fossil itself may not be all that amazing but the quartz that grew inside of it is fantastic!
