Civil War, WWI, WWII?

What do you think, a war artifact? Looks like maybe a rosette? Had three attachment points on the back, one missing. Fairly sturdy. Found at old home site of unknown age, but I do not think too old.

Absolutely military. They are post civil war. I once found two of those hooked together so that the "US" showed on both sides. I would consider your piece to be a very nice find. The approximate age would be around 1900.
 
That is an interesting piece. Definitely military but although it looks to be a collar disc I don't believe it is. Collar disc and cap insignia were pin, screw or clutch back. Clutches never really showed in numbers until WWII. This looks like it went over a plain flat disc as it has tabs that fold over and could have been interchangeable. Again interesting!
