CTX 17" Coil Massachusetts

I watched a DetectorComparisons video on youtube reviewing the 17" coil as I respect his opinion, he finds a lot of great stuff and has a lot of time on these machines. He says that in sand and neutral dirt he gets more/worthwhile depth using the big coil. I ask, in Massachusetts is it worth it? I have been told our soil profile is pretty mineralized as a general statement, I'm on the fence about shelling out $400 bucks is it worth it?

Anytime you go to a bigger coil you will get more depth. The Minelab CTX 3030 17" Smart Coil is no exception.

I find the main advantage for me is coverage area. On a beach or open field you can cover some SERIOUS ground with that coil. You can take a full step forward after each swing.

I would pick it up, maybe try to find a used one for around 200$ instead. I unfortunately never had the chance to try the 17" but I know a lot of folks who swear by that coil. MA has its heavy mineral spots, but for the most part (in my area anyway) the mineralization is mild. So I would guess in 9/10 of your hunting spots, you will have little issues with mineralization.
