Can any one ID this 30” barrel? It appears to be possibly 22 cal rimfire. Thanks in advance. Jardine

30" would be VERY long for a .22 rifle...at least at modern standards. I'm not familiar with black powder rifles in a caliber that small.

Hmm, octogon barrel, no indication of a black powder breech...Going to have to do some research.

ETA: Do you see any indication of a dovetail for a front site? I did find an 1885 High Wall image, in .22, with a 30" barrel. The barrel profile looks like it COULD potentially be a match, given the screw in breech end of your barrel.

The hole goes all the way through just like a rifle barrel, but it is for forced air or water to flush out the drilling grindings.

The flare on the other end is the part that is broken off.
A common occurrence when drilling hard rock and the bit binds.

Huntindog looks like the winner! It was found in a hard rock mining area. Thank you all for the research.

This thing looks EXACTLY like a rifle barrel! I never even considered it was anything else. Learn something new every day. I am going to like this website.
