From East of the Pond
What are the dimensions? As it appears to be flat, unlikely to be a shoe buckle.
Not an expert on buckles, but it looks like C18. In your middle image, the hookie gizmo is an anchor chape, to which one of the straps was fixed. These tended to die out after 1720 for shoe buckles. The curved section is unusual – well,to me, anyway. Nowt in my buckle book like it.
Could you show the upright section at right in images 1 & 3?
Intrigued !
