Ground Balancing the 3030

3030

Every once in awhile I will turn it on and then ground balance the detector, then turn it off. But that is in the dirt. On the beach you will want to do it more often.

Most applications running auto GB-- meaning manual GB not engaged will suffice and provide good to maximum performance.

And when one engages manual GB and then follows the prompts by bobbing coil etc--- and then disengage manual GB, you have wasted your time.

As soon as you disengage manual GB and sweep your coil--- your detector is tracking the ground.

On rare occasions I will hit a pretty bad patch of soil; usually fill dirt from some old industrial site. If the sensitivity is running at single digits in auto+3...... and the sensitivity number is staying pretty consistent..... then I will check the "enable GB" box, pump the coil, and perform an auto (it's not really manual) ground balance. 99% of the time however, I leave the GB box un-checked and let the CTX's ground tracking work its magic.
