I saw the 1909, but it needed to soak until the s appeared.
First for me:D

Is this really a $50 lincoln cent?

Don't think you are looking at a $50 coin, but certainly an "oldie".:D No question about the 1909 though. Great to add to those "almost" finds that make your heart beat a little faster.

That's a great find, congrats Matt Did you realize it was an 09 when you dug it or when you got home?

Well I found it at night, so I knew it was a wheatie, but I rarely take the time to look at dates "in the field", especially in the dark:cool:

Didn't realize it was a night hunt. That's dedication

I sometimes try not to check the dates, but the suspense kills me.

Nice one.

Funny...down here in Louisiana early wheats...ie..teens,20's and 30's look like IH's with the dark green patina....1940's era sometimes are green...sometimes crusty....1950's are usually the crustiest.

(that's in parks...in the cane fields all bets are off because of the fertilizers)

Nope. It won't be an S mint. (nor an S vdb, etc....) . I see you're from Milwaukee. And as everyone knows, we west coast guys don't allow you east coast guys to find S mint coins. Sorry about that chap
