I took a few hours off and am now back at it lol , still no exact match but I did find an interesting item you may find worthy of a look http://hanoverbrass.com/More6.htm look at the lower T112 .. see the divot ? also it says that one was made by a william smith of New York and its a virginia plate . since my eyes are growing weary now I will take it up in the morning and try to check this guy out maybe it will help put that in the prefered time frame, regardless, it isn't a common plate by any means and the condition is great and I would do a few unthinkable things to have it under my grass comb (coil )

This plate is interesting lol , find this style from 1840 to after 1900, militia and police use, some brass and others silver washed and others that appear to be pot metal, the dimple and hook on the back seperate it from most examples and with buckles its all in the little details ... here is a pic of one that looks close on a police belt. wish I could see the back lol . same design all those years but I think the dimple is the big factor involved no matter the composition..... but I am still looking for a few back picks.absolutely on the rarer side no matter what year it is. sweet find to say the least

Thank you ! yes feeling better while sitting on the couch but as soon as I try to do anything else I find that I may be overdoing it lol , Still working on that plate, conclusions so far , 1. its a rare find ,2. the same style front was used from 1840 to at least 1900 3. there were a few diferent manufacturer's 4.the back tabs and divot appear and disappear and change, I have yet to find one with a divot but with a different tab, nope no puppy paws on any yet, but I am still looking 5.the style was used for militia and police 6.they were made in brass and pot metal 7.some are silver washed 8. the maker William H. Smith plates have all had his name stamped on the back, not saying some may not but I haven't found any w/o....yet 9.there are examples of them w/o the wreath that are identical in every aspect . thats all for now, but I would say that there are all kinds of different plates that are considered rare and they have more examples of than yours.Ny militias have an interesting history to say the least, and as a history buff, I am enjoying my search ! also I have yet to find one thats selling cheaper than 750 $ but then I have only found maybe , maybe maybe 10 different ones from the total of 60 years the plate front style was used. slap that bad boy in a display case and show it off proudly.

I think it would be my avatar , one case where brass is better than a copper copper badge yes pun intended
