Coin dealers across America are going to put old coins back into circulation this week. The local coin dealer in Carson City is going to put some CC minted coins back into circulation! Check your change!

Besides putting them in circulation the article also said:

"Organizers of the Great American Coin Hunt are also encouraging collectors and dealers to drop coins in publicly accessible areas for those who wish to hunt with metal detectors. These areas will be marked on ZeeMaps as well."

Thanks for this. Nothing close enough to me, but I think I'll start popping some coins in the ground around me for other detectorists.

I have a lot of dateless buffs that I'm going to exchange at the local piggly wiggly to get some into circulation around here

That low flying plane would be nice maybe some one will spend it around my neck of the woods and than lose it close by. have a great day GL and HH. Jon

As they say you have to be in the right spot. It does make you ckeck your change more often. Guess we will have to be lucky. GL and HH.

I've been talking about this for a while now.

I am one of the dealers participating in this hunt. In addition to dropping coins into circulation, they will be dropped randomly at parks, curbs, into easter egg hunts and i'm even going Geocaching this weekend to plant some.

I encourage everyone to keep their eyes peeled. There's a lot of great stuff being dumped. I plan to drop the following into circulation:

Large cents, wheat cents, indian head cents, Buff/V/shield nickels, silver dimes, quarters and halves, ike dollars, kennedy halves, silver certificates, red and blue seal notes, etc.

It's great to see people posting about this. I will say that there were some issues with people updating the map so there's going to be more coins dropped than you may think.

WOW! I can only imagine how cool it would be to get a large cent back at the store.

The reality is though, as soon as I wrote that, that potentially the only people ever seeing those coins are the cashiers. LOL

Its a cool concept that allot of Numismatic clubs participate in yearly...Ours does too...Theres 3 members of our Coin club that are also Friendly members here, so all around the MKG area we are spending or dropping older coins in certain areas in order to foment an awareness of history and appreciation of coins....

Some of us members choose to seed some parks with older coins for the new detectorists coming along after us...sort of a pay it forward kind of deal...sort of to allow somebody else the excitement to find what we pulled in the past and encouragement...maybe mask it a little bit with a piece of wire or a old pulltab to make it realistic..that way, a guy can always go back and get it if he ever needs it right?

Upon my imminent demise, My Wife is under strict orders to go and reseed my paltry allotment of found silver in certain areas and parks around here where I found it....Upon Her demise, I am to take her ashes and build a cool concrete sculpture and sink it off a reef in Bonaire...Mix some of her ashes in with epoxy and build myself a boat...I of course will do as I promised, I doubt She will go and reseed my silver coins though, she might toss out all of my Chucky Cheese tokens in the nearest chip totter, so dont expect a whole lot here!......

Money travels. I'll keep an eye on my change to see if any of those plants travel to my area. Fun idea. Might even spend a couple oldies myself. Do Canadian coins count? :?:

I'm not spending the Large cents b/c I don't want cashiers to pocket them. I've been dropping them in playgrounds and around schools. I got caught this morning driving through a bus stop at a local school, heaving large cents out the window , driveby style. It was pretty funny on the last toss, two women were in a doorway and threw their hands up as if I was littering. Then they came outside and picked it up and got all excited. I think I've dumped 30 of them so far. It's getting pricey hahaha

That is cool! Someone is dispersing some old coinage close to my work. Hope to find some! Thanks for sharing!

I know a dealer in Mass that's been dumping TONS of nice old coins. Also, the interactive map has been crashing so we haven't been able to add new pins. There's a lot more coins being dropped than the map would indicate. I know I was not able to add any pins beyond the first one I did well before the launch of the website.

I would say to anyone searching for these coins, take your kids to playgrounds, ball fields, basketball courts etc.
