Well, the silvers have been few and far in between....So have my hunts for that matter.....
Anyway, I snagged this piece of slag lookin thing .....screamin quarter signal at 3-4 inches, took me a few minutes to recognize it had reeded edges, then I noticed some letters on it. After rotating it and looking at it from every possible angle I finally can see the outline of the queen pretty clear.
I can't prove it , but I'm calling it my 3rd 1800s Canadian for the year!!! :D

Looks like this one was in a fire of some sort. I'll take it....#36 FTY.

I just now noticed the mint mark....You see it??:D

Your evaluation of rough is a might bit of a understatement Bob. One heck of a great job on the identification. Hope more time comes available for you as the autumn approaches. Trapper

Hey its silver, who cares what form its in. The earring looks to be possible silver too? Great hunting man! Im going out for the first time in weeks this afternoon. Can't wait honestly. GL&HH!

She's definately a little worn but it should buff right out :D Silver is great not matter what condition you find it in. Congrats

sounds like a plan

Yeah I'll hit her with a buffer and see if she'll clean up a bit......

BTW, a bit more research on it and from what I understand it looks like the last quarter that was struck at the Heaton mint in the UK was in 1890 !!!
So, OFFICIALLY my 3rd 1800s Canadian silver this year !!! :wow:

UPDATE, Just zoomed in a bit and peered through the carnage, and to my amazement I saw the number 4 in the date !!! It looks like the only option is the 1874H then !!!

So that's 1883 5 cents, 1874 Quarter, and 1872 half. 4 months to get the dime and dollar and hit the 1800s Canadian YAHTZEE !!!!!
I am gonna be out there in a few months , anyone know if parks ore legal in Ontario????
