It is not a find of mine. But it is a very powerful example to be careful to every find you make.

The spur is dated to the first half of the 12th century. And there is gold on it :shock:
To clean it, it was sandblasted (carefully)

That's amazing! Do you have any more details on the preservation process, such as what type of blasting media was used, and whether any preservative was put on the metal after it was blasted?
 
Wow. I probably would have left that in the woods. Good advice!
