Found this today in an old area with 4 injuns.
It has the Wisconsin seal on it with the Forward motto and the badger.
This is probably the largest (24mm) and most intact button I have found.
It still has some gold on it!

On the back it says Scovill Mf'g Co and Waterbury.

Any thoughts as to age?

Ok.

I can't really tell too well from the picture but to me it looks like what they refer to as impressed "large lettered" which would put it @ 1870 or after ..

Impressed small letters of that backmark put it between 1850-1870

Scovill is a tough one..even a dot can change the date range.

Had to find an online example VS in my books, I believe this is your button.

Backmark: "SCOVILL MF'G Co. (o is underlined) / (star) WATERBURY (star)" dm large letters inner ring of dots, manufactured after the Civil War, (ScovillM501).
