Found this unlikely fragment in a field today in a very historic town in Massachusetts... It looks to be Ottoman Empire and I would *guess* 1800's but who knows?? It's holed, very thin, and if it were complete would probably close to the size of a Large Cent... If anyone could get me in the right ballpark I'd be super appreciative! đź‘Ť BB ImageUploadedByTapatalk1415077953.733941.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1415077964.983496.jpg

I guess you are right. Looks like a fragment of an arabic copper coin. Once I found a similar piece in Hungaria. But no clue how this part came to States.
However, neat find!

I realize this is an old thread, but... bump! Still would love to ID this! Thanks!

A step closer

Turkish 1/2 Cedid Mahmudiye, These were worn by women dancers, hence the common holes. This particular design is very commonly seen replicated, very often bearing the fictitious date "1223/78"

Thanks so much for your info! This one you posted seems to be gold from what I read online, so perhaps this copper (?) coin is some smaller denomination? Would help to read Arabic! I had a hunch it might be Turkey - but I think you have convinced me. Thanks for spending time on the ID!
