Just wondering but since the coins have been in the ground for so long we know just plain water would be ok to clean them so I wonder if you could put your coins in one of those heated, sonic jewelery cleaners with just water in them. Seems to me that might work. What's your take?

Mild detergent won't damage the coins. I think you may have to use a chip of Ivory Soap so that you are not sudsing all over the place.

I use mine all the time. You get varying degrees of success. You do need a good cleaner though and a detergent meant for the process.

I use ultrasonic all the time and had good results just using one drop of washing up liquid. Tony is right though. Its worth getting the proper solution as so much in the home contains salt and a few years down the line you might regret saving a few cents.
