It was a beautiful day yesterday when I got off work so decided to some detecting and hit a few curbs I've gone over before but not with my 13" coil. Well only found a little bit of clad so I made my way to the old park near me where I've got silver, buffalos, indian heads, V nickels and my previous oldest coin, a 1868 shield nickel. Wasn't finding anything but trash, this place gets pretty pounded and you're hard pressed to even find a zinc here. So I headed to a spot in the park where there are pipes or cables underground running to the lights along the sidewalk there, if you run your coil over them it gives an overload signal. So I just stuck close to them in hopes that other guys skip over the area. After about 10 minutes of doing this got a solid nickel reading at about 4". Dug the plug and pulled it out of the hole and was completely amazed to see another shield nickel in my hand!! This one is one year older than my other being a 1867 and my new oldest coin! I think I'll spend a little more time in this area of the park as it was only about 100 ft from where I found my first shield nickel few years ago. Sorry for the long winded post but thanks for looking and HH!
