Is there any way to date this rifle cartridge?

WW 7mm Super - Mauser

Found at old 1890 local park about 4" down.

Thanks ~DK

Looks modern to me...I'd guess less than 20-30 years old. A lot of deer hunters still use this cartridge.

In production since 1892, still made today. The Brits call it a .275 Rigby. Cool find. Winchester made that one, I think.

Winchester Super-X 7mm Mauser (a.k.a. 7x57mm). Hard to tell for sure from the pic, but yours appears to be a "Silver Tip" which wasn't produced until 1939.
That round was very popular in the 60's, due in part to the abundance of surplus Spanish Mausers available then, coupled with excellent performance characteristics.

It had me thinking it was old because of the age of the park at 1890, the age they have been manufactured since, and on the same day, same park, same depth of 4" down, I came across this headstamp which shows to be a W.R.A. Co. Rival (12 ga: 1884-1897).

So not very scientific but finding both relics of ammunition at the same depth in a popular city park made me think they may be of similar age back before it was a park.
