about 1 3/16th " in diameter..no scale to weigh it but made of iron...

It's not grape shot...grape shot was bigger and used mainly in naval guns trying to tear up the enemy's sails,masts and rigging...

cannister was anti - personel..turned cannons into big shotguns basically.

IF it's cannister,it's was shot out of a small bore gun,probablly some of the smallest cannister shot produced according to those tables.
 
I've been near one going off....the concussion was what impressed me most....a stone deaf person would know one's going off...lol
 
Had several very knowledgable people last night at the club meeting confirm it...

It is cannister/grape....and judging from where it was found it's was definately "fired in anger".
 
How can u tell the difference between that and a rusty ball bearing. ? I have one and ive always assumed its a bearing.

I thought the same thing,that it may be just a ball bearing,but was told that even in those days ball bearings were made of steel and not iron...and would'nt have a seam or that "man made" dimple.
