We currently have our third foreign exchange student with us for 1 semester. She is from a small village of 8 houses in Belgium. I asked her the other day about the war and if their was still evidence of it today. She told me that there were still alot of relics left over from the war so now I am thinking that sometime in the future we might take a trip to Belgium and do some detecting. I have never done anything like that before so what are the steps to take to do something like this? I assume special permissions are required to metal detect in another country. Any help is appreciated.

Hi there,

I'm from Belgium and I'm a war relic hunter; here you can check some finds from the north of Belgium:

In the south (french) part of Belgium you can not metal detect because of the law. And people are getting sick from us there and they will call police, forestry, etc.

If you get catched you get a very big fine, lose all your gear and also your car if you have one. Also all the 'obvious' places like Bastogne and stuff are hunted out completely.

I prefer hunting in the north there police cant do !!!! against you if you have permission of the owner. However if you hunt historical places or WW1 sites you will get the same treatment like in the southern part of Belgium so...

Must be why you see people with Scuba gear doing the lakes and rivers? Still turning stuff up by the looks of it.
