It was beautiful out today. I got out for a little bit of civil war relic hunting. I found a big sharps looking bullet. It's .58". Any ideas on what it is? Thanks for looking. HH

Looks a bit like a smith carbine, but I believe they are closer to a 50 - 52 cal

Some nice relics
Congrats.

I wished I lived in your area,,CW finds tough around here due to lack of trooper movement.

Beautiful finds! I cant help but get a shudder through my body when I look at that old high caliber lead...I just cant imagine a Human getting hit by one of those...I used to shoot Black powder, .54 cal...and Lord Have Mercy to anything downrange in the way of one of those...It really puts things in perspective about what awesome finds those are!

Thanks mud. Yes every time I dig one it just amazes me how big they are. There tactics were so antiquated for the weapons they used. They really started figuring it out later in the war. No more frontal attacks. Like at Petersburg they dug in & siege warfare began. A precursor to WW1.

Good stuff, buddy! Looks like you had some friendly cows to keep you company too  I used to raise some cattle -- if you are calm around them, they are very curious and come right up to you. Also helps if they think you're gonna feed em
