Meteorites, Anyone?

I have seen a documentary on T.V about meteorite hunters. When I saw this program several years ago, I thought about the "rocks" that gave strong signals that I threw away as trash over the years. These meteorites are worth lots of money, and they are found with metal detectors. Well, being somewhat forgetful, after having 4 head traumas in my lifetime, I forgot about the program. Then comes a re-run the other night. Thank God for re-runs. My philosophy is that these things could be everywhere, and anywhere. So, if you have a detector, this kinda adds more 'playing field' when you think about it. We primarily look for what PEOPLE have thrown on the ground, often forgetting about the things that GOD has thrown on the ground. I'd say that if you find a strange rock that emits a signal, keep it and don't throw it away. Might be worth a fortune....

Mine, I hunt a beach in the water that is loaded with hot rocks some sound off louder than others so not all "rocks" that sound off are a good thing or worth money otherwise I would be rich ;)

I have a book called "Rocks from Space". I think I remember reading an estimate of there being 8 or so meteorites per acre. (Or I could have dreamed that figure - no other book puts me to sleep faster.) I don't think it means every acre has 8 space rocks; the author had some theory about the number of rocks that actually hit the earth per time period.....

You never know - you really could find one.

I have been digging since 1982, and believe me, I am familiar with "hot rocks". My experience with those is that they give an intermittent signal, and from what I can understand, meteorites give a very SOLID signal. Maybe there are "stronger" hot rocks in other parts of the country, but I'm sure they can be easily distinguished from meteorites. But, I aint no expert on meteorites, just somebody who wants to know more about them. Interesting, though.....

Thanks for that info, Billiard Rich!

That will be helpful to many folks........THANKS!!
