I work at a campground and never see anybody do any detecting, dose anybody on here detect at campgrounds?

I'm going to one tomorrow and was thinking of giving it a shot.

Yes,
I do primitive camping on a farm bordering the Shenandoah River in Virginia.
{Primitive means you bring everything in with you, and I mean everything.}
In June, I brought along my AT Pro, and since it had rained very heavily that Friday night, almost no one showed up that weekend.
I had more than a mile of river campsites to search [12 total].
Was able to search about 1/2 of them.
A lot of beer caps, some clad, and a good leatherman tool.
And found evidence of alien invasion via Canadian pennies.

ABSOLUTELY!!! I do...

We live in an RV park full time and I hunt here all the time. Especially after holidays and major local events like "Thunder Beach" bike rally and the international softball tournaments. I also hunt a huge sports complex nearby that hosts a lot of these events...

I have even found GOLD by hunting there...

And I've found some old wheaties...

I've found bullets and other odds and ends in the field out back of the park that used to have a small landing strip for those planes that tow the banners behind them...

Here's the field out back of the park from GE, it's the area in red:

And here is that huge sports complex... and it's just 5 minutes from home!

Robby,
When hunting the sports complex, are most of your finds around the bleachers and concession stands or do you get many hits in the infield/outfield? I find if the bleachers are aluminum, that pretty much shoots that down. I have a fair amount of luck in the team's area but if they are surrounded by metal fencing (which most are) that makes it difficult.
What has been your experience?

Who among us could go camping and not take a few swings in the campground. I found a 37mm 1916 shell casing at one in Chattanooga.

Finding globs of melted aluminium gets real old.

YES, I do know the GPS Co-ordinates are in one of the pic's... y'all are welcome...

I have only hunted 3 small areas well, but I have done around the bleachers with my Sovereign and my (Sniper) 5" Detech coil. It seems to direct more of it's energy down rather than to the side so I can get fairly close to the bleachers. Mostly I have found an area that hosted parking and a row of tents/vendor booths and laid out search lines using GPS co-ordinates:

And this is the grid lines of the rows from 2005 AND 2007

I searched the blue lines between the red lines first because that area had the most activity. I used my GPSr to establish the lines once on site and did 4 or 5 times better in the finds in a third of the time from a longer previous hunt where I just tried walking the field randomly. I also have grid'ed the picnic area beside the swimming pool and did pretty well. There were 5 of us on the picnic area hunt and we all did quite well in the clad arena.

I hunt boy scout campsites around the state quite often. Since they are usually way off the beaten path and nobody is around, I find it very relaxing and enjoyable. Most BSA campgrounds around here are fairly old, and I can always pull some silver coins with the occasional silver ring.
