All good points but want to bring out that the what I call, "travel line", areas where people walk out, does not get scanned nearly as much and I can tell you, I have found rings in those spots, basically, when people are carrying chairs, collers, and kids toys, they will loose stuff, sometimes they stuff their ring in a bag as they are walking and carrying things!

Get the book gold beneath the waves, around $20 shipped from amazon.
Best informational reading a beach hunter can do. I live in the Great Lakes region and it has already helped me hunt the beaches here even though it was written for ocean beaches. We don't have tides but we do have waves, erosion and currants.

Not to sound hard but I hunted the drysand for one summer, with a ML SE...I would come home with no gold, and tons of coins.....it got so bad that we would see who could get the most coins perday. Then I happened across a guy hunting the water to wetsand. (OC Jeff) He had a few coins, and lots of treasure. The next year I got my first water machine, a excalibur 800...the rest is history..the first few years I would average 2 to 3 rings per hunt (8+ hours), gold and silver. Hunting at waist deep to the top of the wetsand.
The 250 is a great machine and lots of great advice above on gridding and hunting dry......but water machines, and the Sovereign will pay for themself's quick when the water starts to get warmer...my season is from mid july to the end of sept...after that....it's like nothing, not even worth getting out on these beach's. Then researching old beach's and water holes are the second hunting grounds for this off season...but in the water. Good Luck............joe __________________ |

Do you know if they look for through the junk for the good stuff? When the beach is groomed, how deep does it go down? Just curious. __________________ |

Huntington Beach is a good spot to hunt, found my first gold there about a year and a half ago, it's where my addiction began
. I started out with a White's coinmaster and hunted/grid the dry sand around the life guard towers and volleyball court. Also after the US Open and 4th of July is a good time to go to hunt the dry sand, lots of goodies, but also you will run into about a dozen other dry sand hunters . Anyway keep at it and before you know it you'll be buying all sorts of metal detecting equipment with your finds. Good luck!

I am getting MUCH better. I just simply stuck to the towel line and pulled $2.42 and FINALLY understanding the MD'r that much more. The totlots of where I am are good for only sooo long, but it was getting to the point of W.T.? dude!!! Was getting tired of just detecting foil and nails. Anyways, like I said before, the ACE250 does VERY WELL in the dry sand, but pretty soon I'm going to try it in the wet and see how it does? I already know it won't do as good, but still am going to give it a shot... what can I lose? I need a long handle sand scoop though... I have to admit and a little change to SOME of my gear/clothing. Anyways, the jewelry DEFINITELY rang up as gold, but it has NO markings. It's gotta be junk jewelry of some sorts, but it was something to someone else at some point in time
for what that is worth. Anyways, my gold find is going to happen soon. I'm trying different "tactics" each time I hunt. I learned quite a bit thus far from SingingSandcrab so thanks to him and hope to hunt again soon. Want to try out the PI someday, just didn't want to waste his time the day we went. In either case, I LOVE my ACE250. For the most part it does VERY WELL for me. I don't understand WHY people have such pinpointing issues with it??? I STILL can't understand that part. Mine pinpoints just FINE so it's gotta be the "end user". All I have to say is, "get out and practice more dudes..." Just like the Red Baron said, "it's the pilot, NOT the machine..."Apparently that book is a little popular??? Why not, I could use a good book to read during my lunch breaks. HH \_ people thank you to EVERYONE who has given me some pointers thus far... I DO listen and try to learn from the experienced guys/gals out there... gear used: -ACE250 -8.5x11" DD -GPP -Garrett Master Sound Headphones (I LOVE these... VERY COMFORTABLE) -was typically hunting with the sens set to 6,7, or 8max... on occasion was set to 4... __________________ |
