Have I mentioned how much I love water hunting?!
Made a quick trip to the beach this morning. Nice and overcast with calm water. Started out slow with a couple clad coins and a headstamp on my first pass out into the water and back. I decided to grab a sip of coffee from my cup on the shore and while situating myself to get back in the water I ran my coil along where the water meets the shore. Surprised to get a dime hit. The target was only a couple inches deep, so imagined it was clad. No sooner did the scoop clear than I saw it was silver. I was expecting a Rosie or a Merc at best, but was blown away to see a Barber! It's obviously heavily worn, but it's a 1902 and my first Barber anything. I could have quit right there….but of course I didn't. I continued to hunt for about an hour and a half. Found a cool old conical beer can buried in the muck out in waist deep water (also a first). I also found junk ring that VDI'ed as gold and some more headstamps (detailed pictures to come later), a nice Mepps, and right towards the end a very worn 1918 Wheat (I think it's an S, but can't be sure), which is I believe is also my oldest Wheat found. All in all I'm still finding rings, and the Barber was my trophy today, so another successful water hunt!
