Marines - Civil War or WW1?

Out with my daughter at an 1850s home last weekend and she pulled this one out. Celebration still ongoing.

I see conflicting descriptions online. Can anyone confirm which war? I believe it is a Marine's button. Thanks

Seems to be 1902 to present. Backmark is DM (depressed letters), has two stars, lacking the CT abbreviation after Waterbury. Here is a link I’ve used, also eBay. I’ve also read that with buttons some of these indicators get crossed between time periods. Nice find.
