Does any of this help narrow it down?

BlueJeans,
If you post a pictures (front & back) of the Quarter we can give you a date range.

I've also seen a "trick" used to raise the features on a slick silver.

I've never tried it and might have some of the details wrong, so research it...

What my CRS mind can recall they used silver testing acid and placed a few drops on the coin... waited a few seconds and wiped it off.
It would darken the details of the coin and they could tell what it was.

Again... I've never tried it, so do at your own risk.

I agree, post some pictures. I've seen some of the guys on here be able to read very light markings on some very damaged coins. Take some pictures from the side of the coin too. Sometimes that shows more detail.

i noticed the stars under the eagle on the back didnt show up till the coin in 1917 and discontinued in 1930 according to the link that kazacomy gave me...thanks

The side pics I was referring to are showing the sides from a steep angle, not the edges. There is no such thing as too many pics.

Looks like there might be an 8 on the end. I tried a bunch of different rebuilt filters on the pic but none of them really improved one from The Other. Attached what I did and saw.

is there a way to tell the date of the quarter. if the date itself is worn.

Oh yes, there certainy is. Put a drop of silver test acid from an acid test kit on the date area and wait 45 seconds. Wash off with water BUT do not rub it. Detail will smear.

Snap another pic and see. It will pop a lot more detail. Don't over do it, and take lots of pics. It is really easy to wash details completely off

What Martin was saying is what I was talking about and the acid.
and rinse... don't wipe.
Pretty sure you only get one chance at this "trick", so....

I don't think that is an 8 for the date, it's too much of an angle for it to be any part of a date.

Played with it some more... anyone able to make anything out?
