Can anyone tell me what type of lock this might be or what it would have been on?

Probably the cover plate from an old door lock that covered the lock opening. That ornate it was probably on the front door. It's definitely got some age to it! Nice digs!

Junkie I thought about that but it is solid and is the actual lock the catch is missing but the mechanism is still in the lock just rusted solid!!! Thank u for the response
