How long does it take for the ground to thaw enough for me to use my digging trowel with ease after 2-3 weeks of temperatures in the teens and singal digits and below zero?

If the sun shines on the ground, and the temps are not too cold overnight, and in the 40s durring the day, the first couple inches will thaw in a couple of days, if you didn't have any snow. If you had snow, it will be soupy mud when it starts to thaw.

Thanks hopefully it will thaw

Thanks! Hopefully the ground will thaw in a couple days, because we are going to be getting into the 40's by mid week for a couple days at least. Hopefully this is the start of a warm spell.

2-3 months here...

I have no more hope for a thaw until Spring. But, when it does happen, usually 1-3 weeks to get away from the soupy mud. Oh, how I hate to dig in the mud.
Good luck !
Marty

I don't know how you guys can handle that kind of weather. I've been md'ing at the beach here in Southern Calif. for the last 3 weekends in 70 plus degree weather, I'm spoiled.
