I searched a private property this week--a site where Sherman's troops came through and burned down many buildings. On a dirt road, I got several hits no more than 10 feet apart.

The first--my first--a canister "shot" recovered at about 8 inches. The second, an eagle impressed on brass. Several inches from this eagle I located what appears to be it's backing--in pieces. I've found other period era items in the vicinity-but have found nothing resembling this brass eagle in any reference book. It could be a broach, a pin of some kind--or maybe an item that is part of a uniform. Any help in it's identification would be appreciated. ;)

Nice digs!

I thought it looked familiar but couldn't figure out why..the ID image you located is from a local shop near me which now explains why it looked familiar.
