This is my first post on this forum as I just joined this week. I just received my Fisher F75 yesterday and this morning I have started to learn how this thing works.
I got a hit on 'silver' at about 7" and after a little digging, I found what looks like a vienna sausage can. I have two detectors that are both new to me and both show silver. My question is, did they silver plate these cans back then?

Keith,

Hello. The can is just giving a high enough 'signature' that your detector is picking it up high in the VDI range and translating it to silver.

Take it to the nearest recycle bin.

Silver is relative... it rang up in the "silver" range, however not everything you find in that range will be silver. Dimes, pennies, quarters ring up in the silver range, even if they are just clad. Aluminum cans ring up as silver lots of times as well.

Thanks guys. Consider it trashed.
Haven't used a metal detector in almost 40 years. These things have changed.

Welcome...
Congrats on the new Tect'r.
The best I can tell you is...
Practice, Practice, Practice....
You will start to learn those "signatures" with time, listening and Practice.
Oh, and a little patience......
Good luck out there.
