NJ detecting

We spent a week on Brigantine Island just outside of Atlantic City. We Found some coins on Brigantine, mostly fishing weights, and hunted DAYS in front of the Atlantic City Casinos. We would start in front of the show boat, and walk down towards Caesar's. Found some coins, a 1903 Liberty Nickel and a cheap ring, but not much! The last day we went PAST Caesar's and actually had quite a few finds, (coins). Nothing real old, but it sure beat the REAL slim finds we had in front of those casinos! There is so much junk iron in the ground around those casino's...So try past Caesar's. The parking past Caesar's gets down to $4.00 for a shady car lot. That whole area is pretty shady. I would not go down there to night hunt! We were parking in the white fenced lot kind of in front of the Showboat casino. Get a free members card to the Showboat casino and show it to the parking atendant and your $10.00 fee gets cut down to $5.00. Its a two block walk from that parking lot, between the casino's, to the boardwalk / beach.

We then spent a week in Virginia Beach. Did better there, nicer area, nicer people, way nicer beach! Now we are at Myrtle Beach. First day, (today), I found two cheap ear rings, 1 ring (costume), and a couple coins. Still hoping to strike Gold! This East Coast is just TOO DARN HUMID! :( We hunt from pre sunrise to 9:30, then hide until near 5,then go out and hunt again. Good thing the tides have been good for those times! I'm a California Dreaming about going back to our DRY COOL Central Cali coast!:D

Good Luck

I detected in AC a few weeks ago, but it was still just too early. Not many people on the beach yet. I have detecting regularly in Seabright. No big finds yet. Just mostly coin and of course the one class ring I found and returned to the owner.

Ok in OCNJ. I do well in the 20th to 30th street beach. Not alot of trash like the boardwalk beachs. I go real early during the season. I cant seem to bring myself to swinging around alot of people.
Also, they just recently pumped sand onto the boardwalk beachs. I'll wait for the shoobies to make deposits this summer.

OC in MD cleans most of there beaches with a machine and that think picks up everything!

I have watched the beach rakes and they don't pick up coins or small items... besides the trash if they pick up anything its chains and watches and even watches are a stretch... my home beach is raked every morning... last week found two watches and a part of a chain... I even know the guy who runs it and he tells me he hasn't found much good stuff over the years in it... paper money yes but no gold...

I was in Cape may this past weekend. I was using the Excal II with 10 inch coil. I picked up about 5.00 in clad with some cheap earrings. The problem with hunting the beaches is the parking fees. Now I was on vacation with the wife so I was in a hotel. But if you just drive to the beach to hunt you better find 10.00 to put in your pouch or you are in the hole just with parking. The tides were wrong for me to hunt in the water. Low tide was 12:00. I hate hunting with swimmers. I am convinced that you need to get wet to find the bling.
