I finally got some time to go do some dirt hunting at the girls school. This is my 4th year hunting there and the good finds are getting harder and harder to pull out of the ground. The good thing is we’ve had so much rain this year that the soil is damp as far as you can dig. The bad thing(s) they buried all kinds of underground communication lines on campus and it’s saturated with iron which seems a lot worse with the moist soil. I had to work for the goodies last night. I was climbing in and out of this weird viney tree that I’ve found large cents in front of previously. They trimmed it and created these tunnel like sections where you feel like you’re exploring a tree trolls would live in. I found the 1882 Shield Nickel and 1935 buff entangled in that tree. I focused on a section of campus that has a fountain all the girls jump in when they graduate. This section tests your patience every time. It’s loaded with pull tabs, iron, clad and metal scraps from some of the old buildings etc. I constantly dig pennies and little triangular pieces of copper from the buildings. It always coughs up jewelry though and even a 47 Rosey this time. Scored 4 pieces of sterling including a cool but bent ring. The worst was I was next to a building from 1790 and got a nice signal on the nox that had me thinking “Seated Half Dollar”. It was a friggin Big Y token from the grocery store. How the heck did that thing get 6” down. Hope to get back again soon as my window to detect is only about a month each summer.
