Old hotel door plate??

Found this a couple years ago and it was slightly bent but I was able to get it straightened out pretty good. Found both pieces in the same hole. Not sure, but I would guess it is a plate that goes on an old hotel room door. The small object I think would have the room number in it. What do the rest of you think?
Wife wants me to put it on a small cabinet. Not sure if I want to polish it or just leave the green patina on it.

The light is on a cast base. This thing I found is very thin as you can see in pic two or showing the back of both pieces. I've never seen any thing this thin. I do thank you for the response.
