We've only been metal detecting for a month or two but my son has always had an eagle eye for finding things. So, two summers ago, we were vacationing in Canada's maritimes and spent a late afternoon at Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia at the famous lighthouse. The terrain is simply massive rock with large crevices throughout. It's beautiful.
I remember my son just walking along, looking down and all of sudden spins around and says "Look! A coin!" He goes back two steps, gets on his knees and is looking through a small crack at something at least a couple inches in there. I mean, this thing was NOT OBVIOUS. I have NO IDEA how he noticed it in there.
Even he (at 9yo) couldn't get his fingers in there and yet he still saw it.
He found a small stick or a straw and worked on it while we rested for awhile. Sure enough, he works out a cool Dairy Queen token. It had probably been there for quite a long time!
