Many military veterans are ignoring thousands of dollars in back pay that's rightfully owed to them, and time is running out to get it.

When their term of enlistment was complete, the Pentagon forced some soldiers to stay in because of the ongoing war.

For the extra time, Congress authorized $500 for each month they were held over, but thousands of veterans forgot to fill out the necessary paperwork.

The payments are part of the Retroactive Stop Loss Special Pay. The deadline to apply is Dec. 3.

To apply, visit the Defense Department's website.

I've sent in my request about 2 weeks ago and I haven't heard anything back from them.

I was kept 92 days past my ETS and it even states that on my DD 214. Is it just a waiting game now? I know that when you owe the government they take it from you almost instantly but when they owe you it takes forever.

just to add my two cents... I heard about this and did my claim back in august.. I was quite skeptical about the whole thing, but much to my suprise, I actually received my pay in about 3 weeks (but I got a thing in the mail saying 'Hey we know you were stopped loss - here is your code to enter on the site, etc.') so maybe it takes longer if they don't already "know" you were stop-lossed.
