With the beautiful Missouri October weather we've been having lately, I decided to get out and do a little detecting. As you may know, it has always been my dream to find a Barber of any denomination...well it finally happened.

I decided to hit a yard of a 1880's house that had previously been detected. I didn't expect much since it had already been done by two guys, but I was wrong. I had only been moving along the side yard about half an hour when I got a jumpy tone. I quickly popped a 1913 wheatie from the dry ground. I rechecked the hole and got a solid high tone. I excitedly popped the plug again and saw a worn silver fall from the side wall. When I saw the wreath on the back it took my breath away. I couldn't believe I had finally done it, I found an old silver. I called my good friend Garrett (Wolf-dog) and told him of my good fortune. I was shocked when I checked the date; My first Barber was a 1st year Barber...1892. I was as happy as a lark as I moved on to find another silver in my very next hole, a 1920 D Merc. I was thrilled to pop a 1893 IHP an hour or so later. All of the wheaties I found were early ones, all 10- teens in pretty good condition.
I also recovered some interesting relics: a marble, thimble, and what appears to be an arrow head in the begining stages.

Anyways... I was thrilled to find my first Barber, and even more that it was a 1st year.

Thank you for reading and good luck on your next adventure - Levi

Congratulations, Levi, on your exciting hunt! I'm very happy for you to have found your first Barber, and being a first year makes it even more exciting! :good: Great job on the merc, IHPs, and wheaties, too. :cool3:

Welcome to the Barber club. And I love the green patina on that IH !

Big Congrats on the early Barber, She's a beauty!!
Very neat to be a first year as well, maybe there's a Seated coin lurking there as well, the property definitely seems old enough.
Congrats on the Merc and all the rest too, Great hunt!

Congrats on your first barber. That is a memorable hunt in anyone's book...and really nice since a few other guys have already detected the yard. When someone tells me a place has been hunted, you can bet they cherry picked and left the iffy signals which could result in a coin spill like you found.

Nice work!

Congratulations on the sweet bucket lister Usađź‘Ť.
And I would say that indian was droped the day it was minted .

Nothing like a post full of Lady Liberty to look over on a Sunday morning .
Love it !

Happy For You

The first Barber is a big deal. I remember my first barber, it was a dime and I couldn't believe my eyes, when I saw the reef. And you got a lot of other goodies too. That was a great hunt, and you found all those goodies where others had already hunted. Great job.
HH everyone

WOW, congrats on your first Barber !!!!

Especially neat that you found it in an already detected area, just shows that sometimes other detectorists might miss a good find !

I know how it felt when I found my first silver that happened to be a Merc, and still looking forward to digging my first Barber and IHP, just have to be determined to keep at it !

Awesome Levi, congrats on your first Barber. Almost a seated. My oldest silver coin to date is an 1892 Barber. Looks like one fine hunt, ones like those we don't forget. Those wheaties look real nice too and a sweet Ihp. Again congrats. Good luck Mark

Congrats on your first Barber and other finds. Looks like an awesome hunt. I like the part about it having been hunted before. Good goings.
