Does anyyone realize Brin hasnt actually posted since 2008 when the orginal story was posted? I'm not doubting the original story but he hasnt posted for almost 3 years on this.

Here's a link to another post he made later on, re. sending the damaged bills to the treasury......... It takes some time, but they do eventually send you a check - to replace the damaged bills.
